SAKINA PARK – A Contemporary Park of Geometry, Light and Elevated Nature
Client: Developer
Location: Singapore
Status: Development
Design Essence
Sakina Park presents a new vision for the urban park: a sculpted public landscape where geometry, lights, crafted structures and living nature are woven into one coherent environment. The design introduces a sequence of crystalline islands, curved paths and expressive tree-like installations that create a setting both contemporary and inviting. Every element is shaped to encourage gathering, wandering and moments of pause for all ages.
Spatial Language
The park’s layout is composed of faceted, crystal-shaped landforms that create a dynamic spatial rhythm across the site. These geometric platforms host planting areas, seating zones and open courtyards that guide visitors naturally through the park. Their angular precision produces shifting perspectives, while the soft vegetation planted around and within them brings balance and depth to the scene.
Materiality
Each suite is constructed from circular, sustainable timber, chosen for its low ecological footprint and natural warmth. The supporting branching structures are steel, engineered to achieve the organic geometry with strength and precision. Together, wood and steel create harmony between softness and structure, nature and craft, lightness and resilience.
Abstract Tree Structures
Sakina Park defining feature is its collection of abstract tree structures. Each one rises from the ground through a cluster of slender bent wooden trunks that curve upward in a fluid, sculptural gesture. Suspended above them is an oval planter pod filled with lush vegetation. This pod is not grounded; it is lifted into the air and held in place by a radiating network of tensioned white cables that extend from the wooden arms. The suspended cables cast fine, moving shadows across the ground, creating a half-shade effect that shifts throughout the day. The floating planter becomes a living canopy, merging structure and greenery into one elegant elevated form. It introduces both verticality and atmosphere, acting as a sculptural landmark within the park.
Ground-Level Comfort
At the base of these structures, a geometric bench wraps around the space. Its faceted shape mirrors the crystalline language of the surrounding landscape and provides generous, comfortable seating for visitors. Behind the bench, a continuous planter forms a green border that softens the hard edges and frames the gathering area with natural texture. This combination of geometry and planting creates a grounded, welcoming place to sit beneath the floating greenery above.
Athmosphere from Day into Night
During daylight hours, Sakina Park feels open and bright. The suspended cable structures create a gentle pattern of light and shade, while the geometric paths encourage playful movement and exploration. As night arrives, the park transforms. Spotlights illuminate the bent wooden structures, subtle LED lines outline the faceted landforms and contemporary lanterns bring a warm, ambient glow. The park becomes a vibrant nightscape that feels safe, atmospheric and alive.
The materials work together in a dialogue between precision and softness. The curved wooden elements offer natural warmth, the cable network introduces delicacy and lightness, and the geometric ground surfaces provide a contemporary architectural tone. Layered planting completes the palette, bringing colour, texture and ecological presence throughout the park.
Sakina Park is conceived as a destination for all generations. It is a place to sit, to gather, to stroll, to observe and to enjoy both daylight and evening ambience. Through its elevated planters, sculptural wooden structures, crystalline landforms and immersive lighting, the park becomes a signature urban space. It stands as a crafted environment where community, nature and design meet in a harmonious and memorable way.
